# MCP client setup

> Add the GreenTick MCP server to Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, or any streamable HTTP client.

Use streamable HTTP against `https://api.greentick.ai/mcp`. Send the API key as `Authorization: Bearer gt_live_…` on every request. A bare key, without the `Bearer` prefix, is rejected. Do not put the key in the URL, a chat, a screenshot, or a committed file.

The key is created in **Developer**. It is shown once and belongs to the WhatsApp Business account you had selected.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Connect `https://api.greentick.ai/mcp`. The `/mcp` address on this docs site only searches the documentation. It cannot send WhatsApp messages.

## Claude Desktop

Edit the Claude Desktop config and restart Claude.

**macOS**

The file is `~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json`.

```json theme={null}
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "greentick": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.greentick.ai/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer gt_live_YOUR_API_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

**Windows**

The file is `%APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json`.

```json theme={null}
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "greentick": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.greentick.ai/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer gt_live_YOUR_API_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

## Claude Code

Add the server from the terminal, then start a new session:

```bash theme={null}
claude mcp add --transport http greentick https://api.greentick.ai/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer gt_live_YOUR_API_KEY"
```

## Cursor

Open **Settings → MCP** and add a server, or edit `.cursor/mcp.json` in the project (or the global MCP file):

```json theme={null}
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "greentick": {
      "url": "https://api.greentick.ai/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer gt_live_YOUR_API_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

## VS Code

Create `.vscode/mcp.json`:

```json theme={null}
{
  "servers": {
    "greentick": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.greentick.ai/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer gt_live_YOUR_API_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

## Other clients

Any client that speaks streamable HTTP can use the same address and header:

* URL: `https://api.greentick.ai/mcp`
* Transport: streamable HTTP
* Header: `Authorization: Bearer gt_live_YOUR_API_KEY`

## Confirm the connection

Ask the assistant to call `get_api_key`. A working key returns the key name, the key prefix, and the account `timeZone`. An empty timezone means the account timezone is not set yet. The assistant uses that timezone when you schedule a template without naming a zone.

Then try a read that does not send anything: [List approved templates](https://docs.greentick.ai/mcp/use-cases/send-approved-template.md) starts with `list_templates`. The send itself still waits until you ask.
