# Add a product to a WhatsApp catalog with MCP

> Create a WhatsApp catalog product from an image you already have. The assistant does not generate the product photo.

`create_catalog_product` adds one product to a commerce catalog on the WhatsApp account. Catalogs are on Standard and Premium. The image has to be a file you already have. The assistant does not generate a product image.

## What the assistant calls

**1. Check the catalog and the file rules**

`list_catalogs` finds the catalog. `get_limits` checks the name, description, and brand length. `get_media_guidelines` runs before an upload. Catalog images are JPEG or PNG up to 8 MB, or MP4 up to 100 MB.

**2. Create the product**

`create_catalog_product` takes `name` and an image as `imageUrl` or `mediaId`. Optional fields are `description`, `brand`, `retailerId`, `price`, `currency`, and `availability`. A failed `upload_media` blocks this tool until a complete catalog file is uploaded.
