# Import WhatsApp contacts with MCP

> Create WhatsApp contacts, labels, and custom attributes from an assistant. Phone numbers include the country code.

Contacts, labels, and attributes belong to the connected WhatsApp number. Phone numbers include the country code. A duplicate number does not create a second contact.

## Ask this

Create a contact for Asha at +14155550123. Add a label named VIP and a text attribute named city set to Austin. If the number already exists, update that contact instead of creating another one.

## What the assistant calls

**1. Contacts**

`list_contacts` checks for the number. `create_contacts` creates up to 100 contacts in one call. `update_contacts` updates up to 100 contacts in one call when the number is already there.

**2. Labels**

`create_labels` accepts up to 50 labels. Each `name` is at most 120 characters. Deleting a label later removes it from contacts and does not delete the contacts.

**3. Attributes**

`create_attributes` defines the custom field, up to 50 at a time. The assistant sets the value on the contact after the attribute exists.
