# Submit a WhatsApp template to Meta with MCP

> Validate a WhatsApp template with named variables and submit it to Meta from an MCP client. Submission is not approval.

`create_template` submits a template to Meta. It does not approve it. Meta reviews the submission, and `list_templates` with status `PENDING` is how you see that it is waiting. Only an `APPROVED` template can be sent.

Categories are `MARKETING`, `UTILITY`, and `AUTHENTICATION`. Variables are named. The assistant calls `get_limits` and `validate_template` before `create_template`.

## Ask this

```text theme={null}
Validate a MARKETING template named order_update in en. The body uses named variables customer_name and order_id: "Hi customer_name, order order_id is confirmed." Footer is "GreenTick". Do not submit it until I say so. If a field is over the limit, tell me the field name and the limit.
```

After validation passes:

```text theme={null}
Submit that template to Meta. Do not send it to any customer.
```

## What the assistant calls

**1. Check length**

`get_limits` returns the field limits. `validate_template` checks name, header, body, footer, buttons, and URLs. It does not call Meta and does not save a draft. Over-limit fields return `LIMIT_EXCEEDED` for every field at once.

**2. Submit**

`create_template` runs only after you ask to submit. Optional `header` is `TEXT`, `IMAGE`, `VIDEO`, or `DOCUMENT`. Buttons are `QUICK_REPLY`, `URL`, `PHONE_NUMBER`, or `COPY_CODE`.

The assistant does not shorten a field to slip under a limit. A new header image comes only from [Generate a template header](https://docs.greentick.ai/mcp/use-cases/generate-template-header.md). Tool fields are on [Templates](https://docs.greentick.ai/mcp/templates.md).
