The Google Workspace add-on WhatsApp Message Automation: GreenTick watches your sheet and sends an approved template to the phone number in a row when a rule fires. Use it for order confirmations, shipping updates, payment reminders, appointment reminders, and lead follow-ups. No code is needed.

Before you start

  • A GreenTick account with an API key from Developer.
  • A WhatsApp Business number connected to GreenTick. See Connect WhatsApp.
  • At least one approved template.
  • A Google Sheet with a header row and one column of phone numbers that include the country code.

Set up a rule

1

Install the add-on

Install WhatsApp Message Automation: GreenTick from Google Workspace Marketplace. In your sheet, open Extensions → Add-ons → WhatsApp Message Automation: GreenTick → Open automations. The sidebar lists your columns by their header names, so give each column a clear heading such as Name, Phone, and Order ID.
2

Connect your GreenTick account

Paste your gt_live_… key into API key and click Save and continue. The sidebar also has a Get an API key link. The key is stored in that spreadsheet only, and you can change or remove it later.
3

Add a rule

The sidebar shows Connected and an empty Rules list. Click Add rule.
4

Choose when to send

Name the rule, pick the Sheet (worksheet) to watch, and choose Send when. For a column change, set Column to watch (for example, Status) and Value that should match (for example, Shipped). Leave the value blank to send on any new value in that column.
5

Pick a template and map columns

Choose an approved template. Select the WhatsApp number column, then pick a column for each template variable, for example Name for name and Order ID for order_id. Click Save rule.Media headers (image, video, or document) use the approved template sample. Dynamic button links and copy-code buttons can be filled from a column.
6

Turn the rule on

Check that the switch beside the rule shows Active. Turn it off at any time to pause the rule. When the rule fires, Recent sends logs the number, the rule name with the row, and the result.

Triggers

A rule sends one template. If Shipped and Paid need different messages, create a rule and template for each. A dropdown in the status column keeps values spelled the same way. To remind someone the day before an appointment, add a reminder date column with a formula such as =B2-1, where B2 holds the appointment date, and point a date column is today rule at it. Store real dates in the column, not text.

How sending works

  • Duplicate protection: the same row is not messaged twice for the same event.
  • For a new row rule, rows that already existed when you saved the rule are not sent.
  • The add-on only reads your sheet. It never writes send results back into cells. Delivery status and customer replies show in Live Chat.
  • A spreadsheet can have up to 20 rules, each with its own on/off switch.
  • If the plan expires, GreenTick turns every rule off and keeps the key. After you renew, set the rules back to Active.
  • The add-on works with Google Sheets only. For an Excel file, upload the .xlsx to Google Drive, open it with Google Sheets, choose File → Save as Google Sheets, and set up rules on that copy.
A phone number in a spreadsheet is not consent. Only add customers who opted in to WhatsApp messages from you, for the kind of message the rule sends. See Meta’s guidance on getting opt-in.
